take the miles away

Please darlin, come back to me.  Not a drop of rain hits my skin
that doesn’t make my bones ache for you.  You and me, standing
salty and wet in the shower.  You and me, kisses sliding across
each other all clumsy. My lips pushing hard into yours (like I was
trying to reach something in you, unfurl some wild story from your
memory). Our little fits, quick riots of lovin. Kisses in
stairwells and that time you took your shirt off downtown so I
could fasten your new one.  Cigarette hanging from your lips, you
didn’t even care. Without warning, you’ve shoved yourself up from
the murky surface of my thoughts (sweet-wet and gasping for air).
Please, sugar, please.  Take the miles away and meet me where the
rain hits the ground hot and hard.
