A whisper before the storm

if i walked to the end of the universe,

would i find you there?

a hand guiding the planets

(like the old pictures in books)

a white beard of tangled up galaxies

catching the prayers that drift heavenward,

setting the stars ablaze with your eyes—

is that where you are?

if i stood at the edge of the ocean,

would i find you there?

a cool breeze sweeping through my hair,

your steady breath moving the tides

reciting Homer's lyrics of the sea

with brilliant roars to orchestral rhythms

of the ebb and flow of the waves—

is that where you are?

if i climbed down into the earth’s core,

would i find you there?

pumping life into this spinning sphere,

the heart igniting every organism, every being,

every drop of life, shaking the world at its roots

awakening the settled dust from its sleep—

is that where you are?

in the silence of the night, you answered me,

quiet like the moon’s movement overhead.

look in that room of yours, you whispered.

that’s where i reside.

I felt it. your whisper.

like the premonition

of a storm

on the back of a neck,

(or inside a heart)

that something beautiful

was coming.

I think.

Maybe....
