i have a shirt that falls off my shoulders and i wear it because you like it, it was your favorite even if i wasn’t. you said you liked my skin and how it was hiding, i wanted to touch you but you were too close. i keep my heart locked away in a box under your bed but you moved a million years ago and you don’t know where ‘home’ is anymore, did you ever? i have a heart and it has your face on it. it has a crack and it’s become too wide for me to jump over, i always fall through. i knew this wasn’t easy but you were never very hard. you knew i wasn’t easy but you didn’t know i’d be this hard. my fear has a heart and my heart has a face.
i wish you could remember the waves and how they crashed for you, the earth stood in alignment when you came near and climbed the ten-story walls. they said it couldn’t be done, i said it couldn’t be done, but you counted my freckles with your fingertips because i could hide but never from you.
