the sweeping hum

You sweep your room & wake up to find it has moved away.

All the things in the dark settling
their own debts. A glossary
of closet space.

A building grows inside itself-walls
& plumbing & workers
who rest around the clock. The hum from there

like that of a cobra. It isn't a hum at all dressed up in your skin.
