What are they, not petals,
not one, fully bloomed rose
from a garden, whose beauty
is to be plucked and worn ‘til
the sun wearies them dry, withered
and snatched of grace
on your breast pocket.
Oh leave them be to the bees,
the visiting wren, with a song.
Darling, you fall in love
too soon, too often.
